DIA ZINE
YEAR: 2021

Brief: To create branding and content for a digital platform that provides an educational and affirmative space for MENASA women in the West who suffer with feelings of diaspora.
Dia Zine is an online platform that provides a space, community, and equitable information for MENASA Muslim women who are struggling with the experience of diaspora in the West. This project is a collaboration between Mehroosa Jan and Natalie Salman, with the aim of being continued instead of fully resolved, and therefore all our considerations were made with the idea of continuity.

The name comes from ‘diaspora’ as it’s a large issue among the community and is still current as displacement is still taking place, resulting in culture shock and disconnection from Western society. Our aim is to help with feelings of disconnection by exploring cultural issues to provide a safe space, guides and tips to reconnect the audience with their culture, and resourc- es for charity and help. It has a strong brand identity of gradients, vibrant colour, and displays unity between the MENASA region by having a logo conveying Urdu, Arabic and English translations of ‘Dia’.
